Server Health view plan
One server health view for people who run a cloud computer or a VPS. It ships in Allternit Desktop, ai.allternit.com, the m.allternit.com PWA, and gizzi-code. gpuix draws the rich terminal version.
What we have today
| Part | State |
|---|---|
| Computers list, screen, backups | Built: ComputersPanel, ComputerViewport, CloudComputerBackups, phone ComputersPane |
| Live CPU, memory, disk | Missing. Heartbeat sends only online and last_seen_at |
| Services and logs | Missing. No endpoint |
| Metrics code on the box | Unused: infrastructure/vps-node reads sysinfo but is not deployed |
| gizzi images in terminal | Built: ink/inlineImage.ts does kitty and Ghostty |
| gizzi server screen | Missing |
Design
- The data and the words are shared. Each surface only draws them.
- Plain words for non-technical users: "Healthy", "Disk 92% full: clear old backups", "Mail service stopped".
- gpuix runs on your Mac, not on the VPS. It reads the API. So the VPS needs no GPU.
Steps
- Spike, 1 day. Run gpuix terminal mode in Ghostty. Check that gizzi can hand the terminal to it and get it back. Check the size of the native file. Try it on the Mail VPS over SSH.
- Data. Add CPU, memory, disk, uptime, services and last backup to the
computers servereport and the cloud computer heartbeat. Store the latest value and 24 hours of history. AddGET /api/v1/computers/:id/health. - Shared package.
server-health: the schema, the rules that make plain words, and the view model. No UI. - Desktop, web phone, PWA in one change. A Health tab in the computer detail and in the phone
ComputersPane. Use thegraph-*meters. Add docs. - gizzi.
/servers: gpuix full screen in kitty or Ghostty; Ink text in Terminal.app, iTerm2 and tmux. The gpuix file downloads on first use, not in the brew package. - Later.
allternit statuson the box itself over SSH. This needs Linux render without a GPU, which gpuix does not support yet.
Decisions for Eoj
- gpuix before 1.0? It is the rich terminal view only. Ink stays as the fallback, so a gpuix break does not stop gizzi.
- Read only, or actions too? Read only first. "Restart service" and "Clear space" buttons come after, with a confirm step.
- Which boxes first? Cloud computers and paired VPS both, or cloud computers first.
